Coon Rapids is actively pursuing sustainability through community initiatives and environmental programs.
Energy Action Plan
In 2023, Coon Rapids approved an Energy Action Plan aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 35% by 2030. This plan focuses on energy efficiency and renewable energy projects to benefit residents and businesses alike.
Protecting Pollinators
The city is enhancing pollinator habitats by installing native plantings in public parks. These efforts support essential species like bees and butterflies, contributing to local biodiversity.
Community Recognition
During Earth Month, the Sustainability Commission honors local sustainability efforts. In 2026, the Coon Rapids Buy Nothing Facebook Group and the United Methodist Church’s Spirit of Matthew 25 Program were recognized for their contributions to waste reduction and food distribution.
These initiatives reflect Coon Rapids’ dedication to fostering a sustainable and environmentally conscious community.
